Modernizing Black Hole Routing for Enhanced Network Security
Description
This project focuses on upgrading Duke’s Black Hole Routing (BHR) system, a key tool for blocking malicious IP addresses and protecting network security. The current system relies on outdated architecture and interfaces, limiting its performance. Students will modernize BHR by developing a portable, containerized solution that integrates with modern infrastructure and can be shared as an open-source tool with other universities. Collaborating with Duke’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), IT Security Office (ITSO), and cybersecurity experts, the team will define project requirements and implement a robust, efficient system. This project offers hands-on experience in cybersecurity tool development while contributing to enhanced network security across higher education institutions.
